Education

Children in the UK must legally attend primary school from the age of four or five until they are 11. They must then attend secondary school until they are 16 years old. 

Here is a list of schools in Blackburn with Darwen. 

When you find a school that you would like to send your child to, talk to the staff about how to apply for a place for your child. They will give you a booklet to help you. You can also apply online, on the Council website. If you are a new arrival to the UK, for support with the school admissions process, you can email fair.access@blackburn.gov.uk.

In Blackburn with Darwen some two year old children and all three and four year old children can get free early education. This can be in a Nursery, Children’s Centre or family Hub.

Adults are able to access a range of courses which are available through the Adult Learning Website. There are also a number of Family Hubs and Children’s Centres across Blackburn with Darwen. They can offer support with pregnancy and birth, looking after your baby and family and early learning and education. For more information click here.
